The urban motorcycle market for the A2 card is suffering a rebound. The brands are striving to create accessible ranges and the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is possibly one of the most balanced motorcycles for the public to which it is destined.
The 350 meteor is just what you see: a simple motorcycle, without widths, with a lot.Because the best of the 350 meteor is that its price is so tight that it barely exceeds 4.000 euros.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350: Royal Philosophy
The current market in a fairly high percentage is influenced by appearances. It is not difficult to find models that resort to the blows of effect to attract attention based on aggressive forms, aerodynamic appendices, overflowing or pure muscle tenology.Nothing to object, is something totally legitimate.
In Royal Enfield they go in the opposite direction and remain faithful to the principles that earned them to get a huge fame in the mid -twentieth century. At that time Royal Enfield was a British brand that had an industrial adventure in India. The times changed, Royal Enfield's British division.Shortly after the Royal part that was still alive in India saw a second chance.
Years later the market was starting to claim simple motorcycles, with reliable and aesthetic mechanics to the old woman, and Royal Enfield realized that they knew how to do precisely that. The years had passed and while other brands threw themselves to innovation and the avant -garde with greater and lesser luck, they were still faithful to their original and mechanical designs with more than solvent reliability, so they got to work to attack again.
This is how Royal Enfield has become a giant with hundreds of thousands of units sold in India and maintains an expansive trajectory in markets where he had lost his presence. It has even been made with the property of specialists in chassis Harris Performance (with experience in the Motorcycling World Cup) to develop their racks.
Within this trajectory is the motorcycle that we are going to talk about today. The Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is the first of a new saga. These 350 come to replace the previous Royal Enfield 500 Classic not suitable for the Euro5 and already by passing a more current and casual air, more focused on the public of the card A2.
This Royal Enfield Meteor 350 is an asteroid that comes with a simple proposal, yes, but aesthetically very resulta. It is a motorcycle that looks apparent, compact but without becoming small with a wheelbase of 1.400 mm and a seat located only 765 mm that allows us to get left over with our feet to the ground.
The classic roadster air begins with a front part chaired by an incombustible round beacon and followed by a water drop -shaped tank made of a sheet and crowned by a fuel cap with lid and key.A little further back, the large seat in two pieces arrives with the passenger on a bulky fender topped by a circular LED pilot.
The aesthetic and mechanical section shake hands with elements that are well integrated into the general design. Thus we have 19 and 17 -inch alloy wheels that give it a more urban appearance than if they had been radios. The engine is air refrigerated with a marked hairs and the exhaust is a single straight output by the right side.
We liked that most of the elements are finished in black giving a cohesion to the whole set where the color note is put by the different body paintings and the chrome, which in the basic model only appear in the siege of the lighthouse,The escape (not in all versions), the spikes of the shock absorbers and the tapas of the injection set (which by the way simulate being carburetors).
For quiet but charming routes
When we ride in the 350 meteor we find a very friendly motorcycle. The low seat allows us to reach the ground with both.
Ahead we have a picture of controls with an interesting combination. We have a large sphere in the left with an analogical accountkilometers with very classic graphics and that inside a small monochromatic digital screen that contains partial, march indicator, time clock and fuel indicator.
On the right we have a second much smaller sphere with a small screen where we will normally see a schedule (yes, another). If we lower the Royal Enfield application this sphere will allow us to visualize the navigation indications of the GPS in Turn-By-Turn mode schematically: an arrow with the indication and distance that we have left to the point.
If we prepare and look for the controls we will find them in a natural position. The handlebar is a double -shaped piece wide that leaves our hands at a relaxed point to have flexed elbows and straight back.Below the strokes are advanced and covered with rubber, although there are optionally other stroke even wider and even more rubber.
When we are going to engage first we realize a curious detail. This small 350 meteor is one of the few motorcycles on the market that resort to a solution as retro as the tip-configuration for the change pedal.
You have to get used to: To lower marches we will step on the front tip and to climb them we will step on the heel.We could also upload the front tip but the position is not the best and you have to make a rare gesture with the ankle. When you get is comfortable, although the adjustment of the pieces is not entirely fine and generate some noise in progress.
Before starting we move a little in standing and the small 350 meteor allows to maneuver very easily.Reaching the ground well, with a good handlebar lever and with a very low center of gravity it is allowed to control really well despite the fact that it is not especially light: 191 kg in gear order.
We go out and little Royal Enfield lets us quickly see her character. It is a peaceful motorcycle that works softly at low speed and that allows a good starting comfort thanks to an extremely relaxed posture.
Its scope of action is mainly urban, but that does not mean that it is a motorcycle exclusively from the city. Not at all.To check it we have made a long route through the Sierra de Madrid on some of the most convoluted and traditional roads for motorists in the downtown area.
We liked the character that this 350 meteor gives.Instead we have encountered a double crib chassis of conventional steel tube that works very well.
The 41 mm conventional front fork and the double rear shock absorber with preload adjustment correctly what happens on the asphalt and not even drawing with the strokes touching the ground we notice the flaneos that could be typical in this type of motorcycle.
On the contrary. The set of suspensions has a tarado rather by pulling hard, even too dry in the case of the double rear shock, too reactive when passing over blade or areas in poor condition. On the other hand, the fork has a first soft section to harden progressively.
This set leaves us a pleasant mouth taste to enjoy the roads without hurry, lost in the middle of nowhere.Something to which your engine also helps. In this case we are talking about a single -cylinder with simple camshaft in cylinder headof motor torque.
It is a propeller according to the purpose of the motorcycle, with sufficient performance to move without hurry and enjoy, and with fine functioning although with certain vibrations that reach our fists and mirrors.
It will help us to roll within the legal rhythms, but if we want to undertake any unforeseen overtaking we will not find too much response, so we will have to play in advance. What we missed was a gearbox with six relationships.
It only has five and are quite long marches; If I had six and shorter, an engine could be used that as it is configured begins to cut at 120 km/h.In a way the peak speed is the least, what happens that we lack that point of response from 90 km/h.
When we get to the curves we continue to notice that neutral character, although there is a double reading here.At a calm, the touch of the direction is ideal with a precise and soft behavior, now.
The brake equipment for its part is composed of a 300 mm front disc bite by a two -piston clamp and a 270 mm rear disc bite by simple single piston clamp. The set is enough although we miss some mordant, especially in the front train to be able to dose better in braking. The rear train on the other hand is a good support and we only make the pedal itself weird, as gigantic.
Royal Enfield Meteor 350: A lot of style, little consumption and low price
In short, the Royal Enfield Meteor 350 has seemed a highly recommended purchase for those users of the A2 card that look for an easy, paint and with which to enjoy without complications. We do not know how will it be in the long term but it will be a motorcycle with which to do kilometers in the absence of breakdowns.
The great double trick of this 350 meteor in our opinion is that it enters through the eyes and is affordable. It is beautiful and although the finishes could be better it is well built to the touch.Once their potential clients are underway, they will find a motorcycle to which it is difficult to say that no.
On the control box, an note: During the route of this first contact we make a good kilometers with several units of the 350 meteor. In all the fuel indicator showed an erratic behavior down to reserve and shortly after half.
We assume that it will have something to do with the sensor or its position, demonstrating a sensitivity too high to the fluctuations of gasoline inside.Arriving in reserve to the gas station we repost 10 liters, so there were still 5 liters in the tank.
What caught our attention is a very low consumption around 3 liters at 100 km, a detail that for someone who uses the motorcycle for daily short displacements can be forgotten to visit the gas station in more than a week.
The Royal Enfield is now available in the brand's dealers at a price that starts in 4.095 euros for the Fireball version, the most affordable. This is followed by the Supernova variant that adds mechanized tires, windshield and backup for the passenger as well as mirrors and escape chrome by 4.345 euros.
In between the Stellar finish by 4.245 euros, conserving support for the passenger and the chrome but without windshield or mechanized tires.
