Only Rosalía could design sneakers with this very Catalan nod

Rosalía's idyll with exclusive footwear is a fact. After showing her extravagant heels valued at 1,270 euros, the Con Altura singer wanted to launch herself with the design of her own shoes.Only Rosalía could design sneakers with this very Catalan nodOnly Rosalía could design sneakers with this very Catalan nod

The Catalan has collaborated with Nike to design a new exclusive shoe model, called Rosalía x Nike Air Force 1 Espardille. Far from what one might think, Rosalía has chosen to combine the classic and put extravagance aside.

The design, as shown on Instagram, mixes the urban fashion of sports shoes with a canvas upper with classic peasant espadrilles with esparto grass sole lining and wide ribbons to tie around the calves .

As shown in the video, inside the shoes you can read the message “We just did it Rosalía”, paraphrasing the brand's classic slogan “Just do it”.

Further details about the shoes are unknown at the moment as Nike has not yet announced a release date or price.

What Rosalía has made clear is that it is a tribute to her land, as she already did singing in Catalan with her song Milionària or every time she refers to traditions such as Cagatió.

In the images shared by herself on her Instagram account, you can see how she has included traditional espadrilles and even a photo of Dalí wearing them in Portlligat (Girona), who made them an unmistakable part of her look.

Beyond her native land, the artist from Baix Llobregat had a special inspiration for this shoe: her grandfather. “I had the opportunity to design a pair of Nike shoes and was directly inspired by a traditional type of shoe that my grandfather used to wear all the time, espadrilles. Nike shoes are inspired by them. I can't wait to show them because they are really special," he said on the Gurls Talk podcast.

Espardenyes have their origin in Egyptian sandals that were modified by the Romans to protect the skin from the sun and heat with a canvas. In Catalonia there are references in documents from 1322, where they are already being called espardenyes.

In the 14th century they became the footwear par excellence of the peasants of the Pyrenees, which is why they also became popular in the Basque Country, where they are called espartinas.

In addition to dancing traditional dances such as the sardana or the jota, these espadrilles have become a fashionable garment that has been covered by brands such as Chanel or Valentino.
