The rainy season began in Cartagena and with it came hurricane-force winds, which left approximately five families affected in the El Pozón neighborhood, Nuevo Horizonte sector.
Leida Monterrosa, a community leader from El Pozón, reported that a high-speed column of air threatened to destroy the community's homes, "we are really surprised by the tornado that occurred in the morning, the sky became cloudy, it turned The sector was quite dark and suddenly a breeze began from where the channel is located that connects with Ciudadela de la Paz and the Nuevo Horizonte sector and 20 de Enero".
"A tremendous whirlwind was created that was uprooting the trees and the banana plants were flying and ended up destroying several houses," said the community leader.
Monterrosa gave a balance of the damage and assured that "going through the sector and talking to people, they tell me that 18 sheets of Eternit were blown up in a single house and the entire zinc was blown up in another, others were silenced homes. The tornado that appeared in the Nuevo Horizonte sector was tremendous".
"Thank God there are no injured people, because when the natural phenomenon was registered, the families were very careful, they sheltered themselves with mattresses, with the same beds, the mother threw herself on some children and they always protected them, but the sheets if they flew out," said the community leader.

He pointed out that "those who came said they were delegates from the Office of Risk and Disaster Management of Cartagena, they did the inspection and said that Risk Management would only cover 30% of the families' losses, it seems to me a bit inhumane because they are families that really don't have to get 800 thousand pesos that caused the damage to the house".
"Where do these families get their money from? They are poor, they quoted the sheets and what was damaged, they have no money and it is unfortunate that they are left out in the open," emphasized Leída Monterrosa.
The Office of Risk and Disaster Management urged Cartagena to protect the roofs of homes in this rainy season.
