WALMART IS PREPARING TO ENTER THE WORLD OF THE METAVERSE

Walmart is working to put a supermarket in the metaverse and other digital projects.

Walmart, the world's largest retailer , would be preparing to enter the world of the metaverse and NFTs.

This news is the latest in a series of recent developments indicating Walmart's interest in the metaverse. In 2021, the major supermarket chain posted a job opening for a “Cryptocurrency and Digital Currency Product Leader” to drive the blockchain technology strategy.

Walmart submitted recent applications hinting that it already has one foot in the metaverse and its possible projects to create its own cryptocurrency and collection of NFTs.

The company has already filed multiple patent applications with the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO), some of which refer to this type of interactions in digital and virtual spaces.

A recent CNBC article revealed that the authoritative entity approved Walmart's requests. The total number of requests sent by the chain was seven. Three of which are under the “Walmart Connect” advertising division.

The intention is to provide virtual reality and online trading software download services, as well as a marketplace for buying and selling NFT digital assets. This would serve as a trademark for the cryptocurrency exchange.

Meanwhile, another request details possible “fitness training services” and “classes in the field of health and nutrition” that could take place in augmented reality and virtual reality environments. The company presented a module for using its name and logo in both formats.

These requests plan to create and sell virtual goods, including electronics, toys, clothing, décor, and appliances.

In a statement, Walmart said it is "continually exploring how emerging technologies can shape future shopping experiences." Although he declined to comment on the specific trademark filings.

In addition, the company added: “We are trying new ideas all the time. Some become products or services that reach customers. And others we test, iterate and learn”.
