Primark opens its 55th store in San Fernando

A large public welcomed the opening of Primark in the Bahía Sur shopping center on Tuesday, where the Irish low-cost fashion firm -amidst great expectation and to the sounds of carnivalesque pasodobles- has opened its store number 55 in Spain, which it is also number 13 in Andalusia and third in the province of Cádiz, where it is also present in Jerez and Algeciras.

Its opening also completes the remodeling of the island's shopping center after the departure of El Corte Inglés, completed more than two years ago after the acquisition of the complex by Castellana Properties.

From the first moment, the landing of Primark in San Fernando was considered among the different brands that accompanied this restructuring of the Bahía Sur, which quickly aroused the enthusiasm of many islanders. The arrival of the firm, however, was not confirmed until early 2021.

The San Fernando store covers more than 3,000 square meters, has 34 dressing rooms, 18 cashiers and, most importantly, a workforce made up of a total of 110 people, of which more than 60% are from La Isla. In addition, around 60% of the contracted personnel were unemployed islanders and 10% are people who access their first job.

Inauguration of Primark in San Fernando

In the selection process carried out during 2021 to open the San Fernando store, a record number of more than 8,000 applications were registered to opt for the hundred jobs that the opening in Bahía Sur implies.

The general director of Primark in Spain, Carlos Inácio, has been present at the festive opening ceremony of the store together with the mayor, Patricia Cavada, who has been in charge of the mandatory ribbon cutting. An enthusiastic countdown and warm applause from the workers welcomed the first customers who were waiting in the gallery to enter the store.

The island councilor, for her part, stated during the opening ceremony that it was "an important day for the city of San Fernando" and pointed out how "desired" the opening of Primark was in the city, "an innovative company, creative, which constantly grows and makes grow".

She has also alluded to the numerous efforts that have been carried out over the last two years to make it possible to open Primark on La Isla and has referred to the commitment to sustainability that the brand boasts.
