The opposition of the deputies is collected in an amendment to a report on the sports policy of the European Union approved on Tuesday, which corrects the original text to show its opposition to this type of parallel competitions, such as the Super League they proposed last monthApril twelve clubs including Real Madrid, Barcelona and Atlético de Madrid.
The amendment urges that the European Union has a sports model that recognizes the need for strong commitment to values such as solidarity and justice, "and therefore firmly opposes rupturist competitions that undermine these principles and endanger theStability of the sports ecosystem as a whole. "
Although they do not specifically refer to the Super League, they do reject a European model that includes this type of new competitions outside the existing federative structures, such as this initiative that currently only supports three of the twelve founding clubs.
The article in the report that is amended also refers to the principles of sustainability, inclusion, open competition and sports merit.
The vice president of the European Commission for the European Lifestyle, the Greek Margaritis Schinas, had already positioned himself against the creation of that competition.
"We must defend a European sport model based on values, based on diversity and inclusion. There is no room to reserve it for the few rich and powerful clubs that want to strengthen ties with everything that associations represent," said Schinas on Twitter afterAnnounce the proposal.
The report of the Culture Commission, which will be approved in full at the end of November, also urges that respect for human rights is taken into account when deciding which country houses a great sporting event and urges a "balanceAmong the commercial interests of professional sport and their social functions. "
"For example, sports federations should establish a solidarity mechanism to channel funds to amateur and base sport," says Parliament in a statement, which also asks that the salary and representation gap in the sector be addressed.
