Ana Fernández is committed to wearing a second -hand dress on the Red Carpet of Los40 Music Awards

Sustainable fashion is a very important step in reducing environmental pollution. Betting on natural, reused fabrics or simply buying and selling second-hand clothes is already a great help to take care of our planet. As little as it seems. And that is why, over the years, there are more and more platforms for buying and selling second-hand clothes that are used on a daily basis, among which Wallapop stands out. And Ana Fernández has decided to give voice to said platform to make other people aware of using other ways of consuming more consciously than usual.

The actress attended the Los40 Music Awards red carpet wearing a sensational second-hand dress with transparencies and sparkles. Decision that has attracted attention among the media and the general population, since, if it is not usual to see people of such prestige with this type of clothing, it is much less so in an event as special as a red carpet. .

But yes, Ana Fernández has shown her support for sustainable fashion and has not hesitated to tell us the reason for her decision, her experience and the advantages of wearing this dress.

You have attended the Los40 Music Awards gala with a 100% Wallapop look. Is it the first time you buy second-hand clothes?

No, it's been years since I discovered this type of fashion, although yes, it's my first time wearing a second-hand look for a red carpet. And what a success! I love browsing Wallapop and discovering unique pieces to give a second life. I think that once you discover the second hand there is no turning back, without a doubt you have to give this market a chance because it is very worth it.

Also, we've seen you pose on the red carpet with the tag hanging. How did it happen? Tell us.

The label has been part of the look from the very beginning, but it's not until now that we've revealed its meaning. It is not a normal label, but it hides a very important message: just by giving this dress a second life, we have avoided the expense of 1,702 liters of water, 15 kg of carbon dioxide in the air that would have meant making a new dress, in addition to limiting the impact on microplastic pollution in the seas. By wearing this tag, I wanted to start a conversation about how much things really cost.

What advantages do you think this type of purchase has over other options?

Every day it is more evident that the conservation of our planet depends on collective action and for this reason it is increasingly important to adopt sustainable habits to curb the environmental impact. Some may resist us more, but there are others that are very easy to incorporate, such as buying second-hand, both fashion, and countless products that deserve a second life. Wallapop makes it super easy for you, because on its platform you can find a wide range of all kinds of products, and on top of that practically new and at a good price.

In your opinion, do you think second-hand clothes should be valued more?

Of course! I believe that we must value it more and, above all, keep it in mind when buying clothes, not only because it allows us to obtain products at a better price, but also because of the environmental value that this entails. We need to bet on more conscious and humane ways of consuming for the good of our planet. In the end, brand new doesn't mean putting on something new, but putting it on for the first time.

Many are the people who think that in this type of platform you can only find everyday clothes, but not red carpet clothes. How did you discover that set and what made you choose it?

I would tell them they are wrong. :) I got this incredible look through Wallapop, where someone decided that this wonderful dress that she no longer wore deserved a second chance, and thanks to my stylist Chabela García who, as always, has helped me with the choice . We have worked as on any other occasion: we made a first selection of dresses and from there we discarded and we kept this one. I had a crush! When I received it at home and tried it on, I did not doubt for a second that it was the chosen one.

Do you think this initiative should be promoted not only for everyday clothes, but also for more special events?

Of course, second-hand fashion should open up more and more space in our wardrobes. In fact, already in other countries like the US, second hand has already arrived on the red carpet to stay and it is a path that I think we should follow.

As with everything, you have to see it to believe it and that's why I encourage you to try it because it's so worth it. And I am not just talking about buying but also selling, you have to clean from time to time and get rid of what you no longer use because surely there is someone who is happy to give it a second, third or fourth chance.

How would you explain your experience? Would you repeat?

For me it has been a unique experience. I think it is a very special action, because it has a message behind it that I think is super important to give visibility to. We need to bet on more conscious and humane ways of consuming for the good of our planet.

I am very grateful that they decided to count on me for this. In addition, the setting we have chosen for this action seems super special to me, since this year Los40 has decided to take the Gala to the Balearic Islands to give voice to the fight against climate change and, specifically, to the conservation of seas and oceans . I think there was no better occasion.

Twenty years ago, wearing second-hand clothes was “frowned upon”, but today this thinking has changed. Do you think that the growing environmental awareness is going to make second-hand fashion become the first option for Spaniards?

I think that little by little in Spain we are taking second-hand platforms more and more into account when we want to buy fashion and that is a good indicator that we are on the right path towards a more sustainable form of consumption. In fact, a fact that Wallapop shared with me and that caught my attention is that for 68% of Spaniards sustainability is already a key factor in their purchase decision and that 1 in 6 Spaniards expect to buy more second-hand clothes that new in the next five years.

Opting for second-hand clothes is just one more step to do something good for the health of the planet.

And finally, what would you say to someone who hasn't tried this purchase option yet to encourage them to do so?

I would tell you to definitely give it a try because you won't regret it. You can truly find what you are looking for or unique pieces and on top of that at a better price. Buying second-hand clothes is not incompatible with being fashionable and it is also more sustainable and beneficial for the planet.
