After being in Spain for more than three years, the Salvadoran badminton player, Uriel Canjura, continues to grow and warm up for the official events that come his way. Those are always both to play with his club, Oviedo, and to represent the El Salvador team.
However, having finished the cycle that was Tokyo 2020, without achieving the goal of qualifying, now the player is looking towards Paris 2024. He will fight, once again, to get a ticket to the sport's greatest event, but to This must be trained and compete hard, to reach the goal.
On this path, the native of Suchitoto already began with his long-term work plan, in which he is now requesting sponsorships, to achieve what he wants and raise ESA high. He already has a project, to look for the harvest at the end of the road.
“I am talking about a project and I mean that we are planning for four years, which is to arrive in Paris. In the project, there are training bases, specific tournaments to which you have to go, to reach a certain number of points that allow you to enter the world ranking and be able to obtain the classification ”, he explained to CANCHA.
“The ideal preparation would be to look for better bases, train in countries like Denmark, France or even Asia. It would be ideal to be able to get to Paris well, ”he added. Canjura mentioned that, to achieve this classification, he must“ participate in many tournaments ”, all of which are key because they are scoring. “And for that you need a lot of investment and play too many international events, getting a certain number of points to enter (the Olympics). And help is always needed in clothes, shoes, but above all in trips and paying bases, more than anything, "he was honest.
Within this framework, he did not neglect to mention: "The Olympic Committee and the Federation support certain tournaments, but you always need to pay for extra tournaments and the more you attend, the better." In that sense, he knows that he has Coes and the Badminton Federation, but he also needs more support.
On how he feels about this new Olympic cycle that has already begun, the Salvadoran mentioned: “I really want to participate in tournaments now, wanting to obtain that classification. I feel very, very motivated.”
“I am really looking forward to that much-desired classification. We know that badminton is not a strong sport in the country, but I believe that little by little it is becoming known and this would be a great opportunity for me and for the sport in El Salvador. So let's go with everything," said Canjura.
In this way, the national will continue practicing on European soil, playing the official tournaments of the club, but aspires to that sponsorship that may come to him in order to get stronger and for the next Olympics he can be present representing the country.
