If we call you "seersucker" it probably sounds like Chinese, but if we describe an American with thin stripes and a wrinkled fabric, you'll start to know what we're talking about. That fabric that looks like the best friend of those who hate the iron is called seersucker and finds its origin in the British colonies of India. In fact, the word comes from the union of shir sheker, which means milk and sugar in Hindu, and which refers to that rough texture of sugar and the light color of both.
Although it was the English who introduced this material into Western culture, it was the United States that popularized and embraced it. In the early 1900's it was common for gas station workers and employees to wear work monkeys made of seersucker, a fabric as resistant as that of cowboys, but much cheaper to make. This fabric of humble origin made the leap into the most elitist circles in the south of the United States thanks to the students of the most exclusive universities who began to include it in their looks. From then on, the favorite brands of Ivy League members such as Ralph Lauren and Brooks Brothers began to create much more sophisticated garments with this print.
Since then this fabric has become one of the best to wear in summer although its use is not as popular as flax. The truth is that you should make as many seersucker garments as you can because its composition makes it one of the freshest for hot days. Its wrinkled style of effect is perfect for those who hate the plate because, unlike the flax that is smooth and wrinkles just by looking at it, it already carries that rugged texture incorporated in the series. Although thin stripes in light colors are their most common format, today we can also find other types of smooth colored garments and different patterns of American, shorts, shirts and even swimsuits. In fact, this season has a greater presence in shops and we may be faced with the definitive trend of the coming summers. In case and to make a difference, we recommend that you go by including some seersucker clothing in your summer closet. To make it easier we leave you here a selection to go, if you want, dressed in this fabric from top to bottom, in the city and on the beach.
