This is the case of Nola Kat, a 23 -year -old American artist, and residence in the city of Chicago. After studying biology at the university, she decided that the part that attracted her most of the subject was anatomy, and she continued to cultivate that passion immersing himself in more studies ... but of illustration.Although she feels that she can express himself as an artist in different media, she for now she works better with acrylic painting, and paying tribute to raw, brutal and beautiful femininity in her nude.

Hello, nola!Thank you very much for talking with us.First, could you introduce yourself to our readers and explain a little how you ended up being an artist?

Hello, I'm Nola!I am actually a multimedia artist, which is a quick way of saying that I don't know what I do but I have ideas in my head that I want to extract and share with you visually.I believe with physical paint, digital art, photography, animation, augmented reality (AR), 3D modeling, clothing, upcycling. It all started because I like to do things with my hands, I like to do things to look and I like to learn.

How long are you painting and what is your favorite medium?

I painted my first oil painting in the spring of 2020, so just over a year and a half.I do not want any wrong idea that my little time painting means that I have never used paint before or that I have not been drawing since I was a little girl. What I consider my "true art" is the illustration with painting or other media. My favorite varies according to my mood, since I don't like to tie myself to a single thing. So, I would currently say that acrylic painting is my favorite now.

Why did you choose women and their bodies as a subject?

MOR.BO Q&A con la artista Nola Kat: “Todo tipo de cuerpo es magnífico”

Honestly, because for a long time I was not good to illustrate the naked figure. My training is mainly based on the study of biology and anatomy.Although anatomy is crucial to represent a precise human form, I have drawn from live naked models in classes, and I have practiced from photos, I still had problems with it.So I decided to start painting them almost daily to improve.I think I have got.

Most people agree that there is something in the female human form that is so inspiring in art.Even when society's standards about what a "beautiful" person makes themselves toxic with problematic roots, we know for history that they hurt to achieve a certain result does not make sense, since all body types is magnificent. From the Venus of Willendorf to the birth of Venus, the representations of the naked form are venerated in art.My thought was that another person's body is always seen in paintings, sculptures, etc.And your own?So I started accepting orders for people to see their naked body turned into a time -off piece of art that they could have in their hands.

One of the most beautiful things in your work is the diversity of bodies, shapes, sizes, skins ... Is it intentional? How do you work with your models?

It is intentional, since I strive for the vision of art to be accessible to anyone who is a woman or to be presented as a woman. I do not want to ignore the male bodies, since obviously they are also worthy of art, and the cisgenero men do not usually ask me to paint them seriously. I have painted male bodies before and I will continue to do so, but I think that the audience to which my nude work is most directed is that of marginalized identities and that of people who have felt ashamed just by having female body forms. Or body types that are not yet shown in pop culture. But apart from offering examples that resemble the bodies of many people, I let the client take merit. Each person who comes to ask me that the painting has to be vulnerable, which is difficult to do, and puts her confidence in me, a stranger, to be honest about what I am doing. I think we have a close relationship, even very temporary.

You also publish some beautiful photos on your Instagram. Are you interested in diversifying to photography?

Thanks.I received my first movie camera earlier this year and I love to apply similar techniques to those present in most art types to try to capture a photo.I love trying different things and the way my brain works is that learning something new is exciting for a while, but if I really like it, I try to incorporate it into what I usually do.So combining painting with photography, and in general merge digital art with the physicist, is what I like.

What is the favorite work you have done so far and why?

Every time I finish a work, it becomes my new favorite; So this, Call Them Distractions. It really culminates the last year of trying to get ahead and practice, both with painting techniques and putting emotion in my art.

What advice do you have for young people who want to start in the art world? How can they differentiate and notice?

I'm still trying to notice, and I am a complete rookie in most things in the art world. This month I requested my first gallery. I have a lot of very basic "artist things" on my list that I am still trying to check. As things are right now, I am nobody different. But something that I tell me a lot, although I do not always believe it, is that growth is not linear. There are people who have a style, who are selected and who live the dream in a month, and others who have been working for decades to improve their art before getting a great opportunity. Do whatever you do, you have to start somewhere and let it know how it may be. Look in Google "How to be an artist on the Internet" even if the results are not to your liking, organize your files so that the examples of your work are easily accessible even if they still do not show them to anyone, a painting begins even if you forget it during one year.

Like anything else on the Internet, in the midst of all scams and ads and corporations that compete for your profitable attention capacity, there is the opportunity to form real connections, real artists who speak and inspire each other.Real people who love art at any level.I think that anyone should be exposed if she wishes and make mistakes to learn from; The time spent testing and errors is not lost time.Being ignored and underestimated for a while also helps to grow. Now, however, my goal is to make such a good art that it is impossible to ignore.

What is beauty to you?

I was afraid to answer this question because it is very difficult to answer. And then I have to create consistent words to answer it?I'll try.For me, true beauty only exists at the time you stop to assimilate something with all the attention. It can last hours while standing at the top of a mountain range and enjoy the view underneath, or it can last a second when you see or listen to something that simply resonates in you.Sometimes it catches your attention and makes you take a twist when the sensation hits you, or sometimes you have to be patient and leave space for the sensation to arrive more slowly. That feeling can be cheerful or heartbreaking, or the rush of an epiphany or the confusion of experiencing something completely new.I think, in most cases, beauty is a consequence of a change of perspective.
