The Danish Viktor Axelsen, finalist of the European Championship that was played last week in kyiv, has been transferred to Denmark in a medicalized plane that the player himself has paid for after testing positive for COVID after the European semifinal match.
The player, who had to undergo two tests to corroborate the diagnosis, was unable to play the continental final and has remained in quarantine in his hotel room in kyiv, like the rest of the players and referees who have also tested positive for the tournament.
Viktor Axelsen wanted to explain on his networks how the transfer from Ukraine to his country has been, in an isolation chamber, inside a medicalized plane.
"After much consideration and discussion with my staff, I have decided to personally arrange and pay for a private plane that will transport me safely home, of course, in accordance with all current restrictions and protection measures," said the Danish player, champion of the world in 2017.
Thus, Axelsen will be supervised by medical personnel throughout the trip and when he arrives at his home in Copenhagen he will be in isolation there. The player assures that he has "mild symptoms, including loss of smell and taste." He assures that as soon as the doctors release him he will return to training to prepare for the Tokyo Games.
The Danish had words for all the patients of this pandemic. "My thoughts are also, of course, with all the millions of people around the world who are not, like me, so privileged to have the opportunity to pay for a ride home, let alone secure the necessary oxygen or care. I hope, like everyone else, that this pandemic ends soon."
